Typographic Zine: Safe Travels
For this Typography 1 assignment, we needed to make a zine on any topic of our choosing and we
were given free reign over the content and its structure, so long as the criteria for
typography were met.
I used Photoshop to create the image assets, InDesign to assemble the zine, and all writing is
my own.
I chose to create a zine on neural anatomy, particularly as it relates to the development of,
and recovery from, trauma. The content was organized in three parts which explained how neural
networks work (Understanding Neuroplasticity); how the design of these
structures is
integral to the development of trauma and PTSD (When The Beaten Road Is Not The Safest), and
how
these neural structures can be used to our advantage to ultimately heal from PTSD and related
disorders (Rerouting To Safety).
My goal was to create a comprehensive explanation that dispells some of the mystery surrounding
trauma and PTSD, using visual and written imagery to draw parallels between our bodies,
brains, and other natural structures and phenomenon.
